AF fine tune and teleconverter.

I use a TC (1.7 and 1.4) with my 300 f4 and 400 2.8 Nikon lenses. Does anyone know if the AF fine tune changes for a lens-camera combination when a teleconverter is used.

Any information appreciated.

Your AF Fine tune deals with the ID handshake provided by the lens. The TC will have no CPU so the AF Fine Tune will not recognize it and will apply the settings you have used for the lens itself. If you use a Nikon approved compatible TC with the lenses you should have little detrimental effect from doing so. Third party TC's will not function exactly the same and the end result can be unpredictable.

if must not, because I use them on a regular basis and have never thought about it.

I AF Fine Tune my Nikon cameras with each of the three Nikon teleconverters and the settings are different. The Cameras recognize the teleconverters.

Yes it will change! Go to LensAlign on the internet and read all about it. AF fine tune and for Canons it's called micro adjust. The 400mm lens with a 1.4 TC is now a 560mm and the AF fine tune will change along with the DOF. This is if your a nit-picker and I am and here's why. Up close wide open the DOF can be a problem however if you look at the distance chart you will see a minimum, 25 x the focal length and another at 50x the focal length. Look at the DOF at 50x and that is wide open so if you are shooting stopped down a stop or two it may not make a difference. If you are shooting in low light in the AM or PM and wide open I would think you would want to check for all the TCs that you will use and my numbers differ between my 1.4 and my 2.0. My camera bodies remember all settings and once set no problem. If you decide to go this way send me a PM and I will share some helpful info with you.
