I realize most of us are educated to dishonest business practices but I just saw this article that might be interesting to read especially new camera users considering on purchasing online.

I bought a "White Box" Canon 24-105 "L" Lens from one of the companies listed (Not Abe's). I was able to register it online with Canon and so far it's been working like a charm. Still, I get a little uncomfortable when I read stuff like this. I may have dodged a bullet.

I bought a Sigma 150-500mm from Ryther. Registered it and just recently found out it wasn't a USA warranty.

Bummer. Abe's used to be a very good store.

Absolutely NOTHING you receive from Ryther will be a "USA Warranty" item. They are not an authorized reseller for any cameras or lenses at all.

An important point to make here: Don't rely on "Resellers" for evaluating a retailer-- these are subject to manipulation and "gaming" to create a false positive reputation.

Years ago, when I was shooting film, Abe's of Maine was my primary source for my Canon gear. Consequently, when I recently decided to move into digital, I went straight to their web site. While I did purchase my new camera and two lenses from them, I was somewhat reluctant to do so due to their "bait & switch" tactics. Even before I read this warning, I had decided they had received their last order from me. Abe's made a sale, but lost a customer!

Now I know that.
Why can't we start a category of good and bad sellers?
