Last Monday I was given permission to photograph four World War Two airplanes. Here are some of the images.

Beautiful shots, Robeng. The P-51 is a "B" or "C" model as evidenced by the metal behind the canopy. The more famous "D" model had a bubble canopy. I'm guessing you were at NAS Alameda only because of the blimp hanger in the background.

Hi Nick,
Not sure what model P-51 it was. I do know that it was capable of two person inside the cockpit. The pictures were taken at Moffett Field NAS.
Thanks for the correction on location. I couldn't come up with Moffett Field. A lot of P-51's had some space made behind the pilot for a passenger. Rather cramped space.

Nick,
Thanks for the info, Prior to taking these images I always thought the P-51 was a single seater fighter.

Outstanding thread.....thanks.
The P-51 was originally designed as a single seater. Some of the 2 seaters were used for conversion training with the trainer in the back seat. There were also some either purpose built or converted to reconnaissance versions with an aerial camera in that space. After WWII a lot were sold as surplus. The new owners put a 2nd seat in so a passenger could ride along to air shows. The most famous P-51's belonged to the Red Tail Squadron of Tuskegee Airmen fame.
Nice set...luv what you did in post. ;-)
Great photos! Might check your labels. B-24's are really B-25's. Your B-25 I believe is a 24.
Thanks for the shots!
Concur. The B-24 shots should be B-25's and vice versa.
Great shots & great PP. As for the P-51 ........
P-51C 42-103293 "Betty Jane" was built by North American at its Dallas Facility. When the aircraft was rebuilt in 2002 and 2003 it was built as a 2 seat version of the P-51C. The TP-51C was a field modification that added a second seat with a full second set of controls and instrumentation that could be used for training purposes. There were at least 5 TP-51Cs that were built during WWII for training purposes, and VIP transport.

Hey thanks for the info, I'll change it.
