"I don't want everybody to vote. Elections are not won by a majority of the people. They never have been from the beginning of our country and they are not now. As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down."

Paul Weyrich
Co-Founder of The Heritage Foundation

That's stupid. But I, for the life of me, don't understand why people don't vote. Heritage Foundation explains everything!

The Heritage Foundation explains everything the right-wing, uber-conservatives want the majority of us to think is right. They were and perhaps still are funded mostly by Richard King Mellon Scaife, an admitted conservative business billionaire who does not like any taxes on any business.
My belief is that this Foundation would like to change the country to an oligarchy and we are VERY, VERY close to that now. We will be ruled by the rich and their belief is that if we could get rid of the elderly, the poor, and the sick, this would be a great country.

I'm not sure of where and when or even the truth of it, but I seem to remember that, about 40 - 50 years ago, a South American country had an election where the majority of eligible voters did not vote. The majority of people who did vote were communist and, therefore, a communist government was formed resulting in many problems for many years.

Does anyone know the accuracy of this? Even if it is totally false, there is a lesson there.

I get the impressions the progressives generally don't understand conservatism. I have been through all stages from Trotskyite to Labourite (England) to Democrat to Conservative. So over the last 55 years I have been convinced of several totally different righteous positions. Jonathan Haidt's book "The Righteous Mind" has a pretty credible explanation of why people think what they think, politically. I recommend it.

I read the work of the Heritage Foundation from time to time, but am not a member. With due respect, I think you are incorrect on its views.

Their views are quite succinctly stated by Weyrich. " We want it our way and we will suppress the vote to get it." That's what's happening now. Judges are confirming regularly, "if you're rich you can get away with anything."

It goes with out saying that every one has the right to vote. That having been said, regardless of which side you are on,there are some who should not vote. A fair percentage have no idea what or why they are voting a certian way. A sizeable number of the populace has the intelligence of a can of peaches. All you have to do to see this is to watch man on the street interviews on TV. Most folks think the the 3 branches of Gov. are Oak, Pine,or maple. Forget low information voters some are NO information voters, I wish there were some way to keep them from voting.
