Osprey with dinner

I have been seeing lots of Osprey fishing for dinner at a river I cross almost every day. Sometimes there are as many as 8 there at one time.

nice shot, you don't always see this view of an osprey. were you on a bridge overlooking the action? the herring must be running through your river now. what a majestic bird, i just love them.

Thanks Gary. Yes, I was standing on a bridge over the Presumpscott River in Falmouth and there was a school of herring. The osprey and commarants were having a blast.

oh, that must've been so much fun to watch. where i am, i have to wait for the Menhaden or Silver Sides to come in. when they boil on the surface the Ospreys come in and have a field day. my ultimate goal is to get a shot, just before the osprey hits the water and they extend their talons out front to grab the fish. I'm kind of a novice and just bought the camera I'm using, so my goals are greater than my ability but hopefully i'll get lucky.

It was loads of fun watching them. Keep trying. It is very satisfying to "get the shot". I probably took 100 shots that afternoon and only saved 3 or 4! The light wasn't really ideal but that's out of our control.

Keep practicing and I bet you'll get one. I like the lift-off and that little shutter that they do in mid-air. Really cool birds
