Snowbirds

My wife and I are considering becoming "Snowbirds" next winter and heading south for 2-3 months. We would welcome any suggestions as to warm-ish, safe, scenic locations from Florida to Arizona. We have a tow-behind, but might consider a small apartment.

I figure I can strap a snow scoop (a.k.a. Yooper Scooper) to the hood of my truck and when someone asks me, "What the heck is that thing?", I can start looking for a place to park the trailer.

Photos are welcome

There are lots of Mischiganders living South Florida, particularly Palm Beach County. I used to live there. Sorry I don't anymore. Best weather is between November to April. Wife & I have gone down for 8 days the past 2 Februarys and we had great weather, and lots to do.

Anywhere in SouthWest Florida, all in and around the Fort Myers area down to Naples. Best season is Nov to late May.

Snow birds galore.

Hey Day Old. You should consider the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas as we have lots of "Snow Birds" and lots of places for your tow. Much cheaper then Florida and a lot more friendly.

Doesn't look like an Airstream, but similar. Nice rig. I have a long-time
buddy --, and his wife have retired and they have a novel approach that you might want to consider. They sold their properties and have over the last 10 years bought 4 identical units -- small "travel trailers, which they have dispersed over the US, Georgia, Boston, Dallas, and Colorado Springs. They have 4 tiny cars, I forget which model, one for each site. They rotate every 2 or 3 or 4 months, or whenever the mood strikes them. They visit friends a day or two at a time from the various sites, and occasionally move one of their homes right now they are having their little TT moved by pros from Colorado to Southern California. They leave identical and minimal cooking items and suitable
clothing in each TT, and just float and tour from the 4 sites. As an example, my eldest son, who lives with his wife in Connecticut on Long
Island Sound, travels 10 states in his work, and he visits them when they are in Boston. When they lodge there in their TT they scoot down to visit him in Milford and they sail with son and wife in their 40 foot sailboat. Interesting approach to retirement, eh.

Thanks Sarge! We will put that area on our list of places to research. Keep the jokes coming!

Good to hear from you, Tex. McAllen is already on my list. Drove up to where you are from Brownsville with my dad years ago. I agree with your opinion of the area. Trailer Life magazine likes the McAllan area, too. My mother and her side were from Goldthwaite in the "Hill Country" NW of San Antonio. They're all gone now. Hot in the summer and pretty dry of late.

I would not have thought that idea up on my own...ever! Novel way to see the country under as good weather conditions as one could hope for. Sure beats dragging your home around the whole country! Not sure I could pull that off, but I do like the idea!

"O'"...you part Irish, too? I also notice the Yooper-ese", "eh"! Yooper is now in the dictionary...a new entry this year. Holy whah!

Houghton MI ???? You dont want to leave there....you will miss ALL that snow! I used to live in Ishpeming......Lotsa memories of snow,,,,snow,,,,& more snow ! ! ! LOL
PS: we used to like Cearwater FL. but on our last trip there was ruined by the building explosion there. All the quaint little places were bought up and replaced by Hi-Rise units..... too busy for us. Better off to head for FL Keys.
good luck wherever you go.

We have just come out of one hard winter. I find them more depressing every year. However, I haven't been anywhere with a nicer summer, but I'm looking.
I would like to see Key West, but not an extended stay. I think I would find it too constraining. Nothing is set in concrete of course.

Now Ishpeming, I could see leaving that place. It's even colder than here! :-D
