I am considering a Canon Extender ef 2X lll for use on a 70-200 f4L lens. I have a Canon 6d. Does anyone have experience, and opinion with this combination. I am currently using a 70-300L as a long lens, but I would really like to cut back on weight.

Using the 2x on a 2.8L has not presented any major problems as long as the light is good and cutting back on f-stop a couple settings is okay. Functionality is good with the 2x although focusing may be a little slower at the longer settings if the initial focus point is at the opposite end of where you want to focus. You probably will miss the wider lens opening with the 2x on a 70-200 in the lower light conditions unless you use a tripod all the time and don't mind not having the option of a really shallow depth of field that the wider opening gives.

You will lose autofocus on a F4 with a 2X Canon extender unless you own a 5D3 with the appropriate firmware or some of the 1D series. Your 6D isn't in the list to overcome the f8 limitation. You can buy an aftermarket extender that should solve this limitation.
