Just Fred Loc: Darwin's Waiting Room

Every Saturday morning there is a gathering of auto enthusiasts in the village center of Great Falls, VA. A great learning experience for me on my new D7100. I found my tripod a must! There's also a lot to be considered when there are people photo-bombing your shot, shiny reflections from the cars, and extreme contrasts.

Most of the shots were taken using my 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S.

Not a lot of PP. And I know these are very "rough," so please be gentle. I expect to improve the more I do this...

Taking great shots with cars parked right next to each other can be a challenge with people walking around. Nice cars. Good shots. If I were to suggest anything I would say the photos could be lightened up a bit. I love the Isetta, you don't see many of those crazy cars anymore. Thanks for sharing.

Nice photos Fred.

If you dont already have it, I can
recommend ViewNX. It's a free download produced by Nikon to edit photos. It's simple to use, and good photos like yours here would really jump out from the monitor with some of the "D Lighting" feature of that program applied to them... It works on JPGs but excels on RAW files.

Here's an edit I did in ViewNX (hope you dont mind) that took
about one minute.

I looked inside of it, perchance to take an interior shot of it. But it's so small (and sparse!) that it was nearly impossible.

I did wave to the guy as he drove away, though. :)

Thank you for looking and commenting.

I do have ViewNX 2. I pretty well don't remember it now that I have Lightroom 5. I did some rudimentary post-processing in LR5, but didn't spend a lot of time doing so.

This was the first time I tried shooting an event of this nature. I did a lot wrong, but I also learned a lot. And since they do this every Saturday morning...

You did a good job keeping distracting elements out of "Dynamic Duo"... good composition too.

Is there a possibility that your monitor is too bright, that will of course make you edit your images a bit dark?

Thanks for looking Shutter Bugger, and for your comments. Actually, I think my images are a bit dark (it was early and a bit overcast, and I underexposed a bit, too). Fortunately, I shot in RAW, and so I'm going to spend some time looking them over in Lightroom 5, and after I've had some coffee myself, will probably improve them a bit. :)

To that point, here's the F12berlinetta re-worked a bit...

Great shots. The Morgan is hand made and there is a three year wait for one.I had a ride in one and thought it uncomfortable.

Really!? By the looks of it, I would have thought the Morgan was an antique/relic! Nice info.

Thanks for looking and commenting!

That was probably an old one but they don't change much.
A certain type of people buy these cars.I suppose they want to be different. There's another one you may not have heard of.A Bristol. It was made by the Bristol aircraft company. I think they may still make them but I'm not sure. They cost the earth but are beatifully made and I doubt if they turn out a hundred a year.
