I have canon 6d and 70-200 f2.8 is, waiting for tamron 150-600 but don't think my order will be filled by June 5th when I leave. I saw a sigma 50-500 used on ado rams for just a little more than the tamron, what are yor thoughts on either of those lenses and should I wait for tamron of get the sigma?

How long are you willing to wait? Get a Sigma, fine tune it to your body, and get plenty of practice so you are familiar with the idiosyncracies of super zoom lenses BEFORE you take the trip. Tamron has been super secretive about the issued and availability of this lens since it removed them from dealers stock back in February over focus issues.

I have a Sigma 150-500. The advantage is that the 150-500 has image stabilization which makes is manageable to hand hold. Better, of course, with tripod; but you can hand hold that lens. Tamron also has IS; but, it seems, that lens is hard to get hold of.

Thanks, I think the sigma 50-500 also has IS, how do you like your sigma?

The middle option between hand-holding and using a tripod is using a monopod. Combining a monopod with IS works very well!

Might consider renting glass.
Where in AK are you going? Denali? Kenai? Wrangall?
I would certainly bring a wide angle as well as superzoom and even a Macro can get a work out.

You'll find many threads on UHH endorsing the Sigma 150-500. I took mine to Alaska last year and was delighted with it.

Sigma has just dropped the price on it.

The 50-150 doesn't get as good reviews. Also, be sure to get an OS model whichever one you get.
