While visiting San Diego Safari Park I was lucky enough to witness and photograph a giraffe being born. From a 6ft drop on it's head to walking away in about an hour.

Ready to drop

Lifting it's head to look around

Trying to stand

I guess that long neck helps absorb some of the shock from the drop. Great timing.

What an amazing series! How fortunate you were to see this, and how fortunate we are that you've shared it.

The SD Wildlife Park is a wonderful place to get photos like this without having to make a long, expensive trip out of the country. They do a great job with their habitats.

Not sure if you know this but I believe that drop is what reverses their respiratory and circulation to work after birth. Its awesome to see such a wonderful event.

It's fascinating seeing the protective ring formed around the infant. Thanks for sharing something I would never have seen otherwise.

Is UHH great, or what?
