Looking forward to sharing and learning from you all too. Got a question too. what can cause a shadow in a shot where there is nothing to cause one? It's happened a couple of times now. I've attached one to see.

Hi Safire, welcome to UHH. Its a good place to share. Now about your picture. sure looks like a shadow for sure. You used flash...was it an on camera built in flash? If so was it open all the way? I used one a while back and my hat had the flash partly covered and it was almost open but not all the way. Not that? Finger or hand in front of your flash somehow??? Camera strap in front of part of the lens or flash. One other thing can cause a shot look partly dark; if you shoot at a shutter speed that is faster than the camera flash sync is set for it can cause a look like this. Check your manual for flash and camera sync. If you have the shutter too fast it won't work properly. Thats about all I can think of except...Do you have ghost? :-)

PS Cute kid!

Welcome. I have had this happen to me a few times when doing photos at relatives houses. It could be due to where you are standing as compared to the lighting in the room. (Example: overhead lights) That has been some of my problems in the past. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the group.
Shadow: If you hold your lens with and overhand grip to focus or just because thats what you do....your hand in front of the flash can cause this too.

Thanks for all the welcomes and also the answers. I don't think that my hand was over it, or had anything else blocking it. I will have to double check next time, and make sure I am holding the camera properly. It doesn't happen all the time, I was just making sure that my camera wasn't going to tear up, or my CF card. The flash was built in to the camera, a canon eos. And thanks, that is my grandson. He is a mess, he was worn out from christmas. LOL
