When you say it needs to fold down to 25 inches do you include the ball head in that number? You have a $1500 camera and presumably a $1,000 to $2,000 lens. Dont skimp on a tripod.
I have the Manfrotto 055Bpro . I am 6'3" and wanted one where I wouldnt have to bend over to use. You also need to by a ball head with it and it is about 32" long when you include the head. It doesn't move with my 7D and 150-500mm lens on it

That's what I said.

Absolutely correct - and their ball heads cannot be beaten.

Your budget for the tripod means a lot. The more you spend, the better the tripod. If you want to travel First Class, look at Really Right Stuff.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. I purchased a Mefoto A2350Q2T. Now the test comes when I try it.

I have a Canon 7D. With my heaviest lense on the camera I have a total weight of about 7 lbs. Going to start traveling a lot and using a tripod and I need one that will fold down to at least 25 inches and is fairly light. However, I want it to be sturdy enough that it won't be blowing over in normal wind(almost impossible in Oklahoma). Thanks for everyone's input.

As already suggested, I was going to mentione Benro. They have an extensive variety, all very light, sturdy, stable, and many collapse well below the 25" limit you mentioned.

I purchased this one about a month ago, and love it. It's a Titanium Alloy, light but sturdy. One thing I really like about it, the legs unlock to spread out. Makes it easier to get closer to a subject that is on the ground.

Just bought a MePhoto Backpacker for $189...local. Same price at B&H. Light...handy...ball head and also converts into a monopod. Love it.
