Having several cameras with multi attachments, filters etc. it is hard to keep track of everything and get fast access to what I am looking for. In fact I have bought duplicates of several items. Any suggestions on how, or in what, to store such items ... This does not include bodies or lenses, just doohickeys.
Thanks. Ed

No one can store your stuff to suit you. Might I suggest you store each item where it's handy and easy to access. PUT THE LOCATION ON A LIST AND POST IN SEVERAL PLACES. Do the same with everything you want on the list.

Build or buy some shelves for out in the open storage where you can see what you have, provided you have a suitable room or area in your house for such a setup. There are also stackable drawer type bins. Some of those, with a labeling machine so that you can tell what's in each one, will give you a lot of storage for smaller items. Filters, batteries, cables, etc. For stuff you may want to hang up, such as backpacks, tripods and so forth check out a Lowes or Home Depot. They have wall racks for garages that can be had with a variety of hooks and other attachment devices that can be mounted in your storage area.

kind of anal but I inventoried everything I had and put it into a word document on my computer and put a shortcut to it on my screen, that way when the evil spend bug rears its' head, I can go to the list and see if I already did. Once the task of collecting all the information was done, it is a simple matter to just add each item I get to it. I did break it down by category to make it easier to find such as tripods, flash, filters, etc.

I use Pelican hard cases... 1 for Bodys and Lenses... 1 for Lighting... 1 for filters and accessories. This keeps everything organized, portable, dust and humidity proof, and easily accessible. I also follow Crimes 324's regimen of an Excel spreadsheet to help alleviate duplicative G.A.S. Attacks, and insurance verification. ( Can imbed receipt and photo) Good Luck!

How much stuff do you actually use? Are you a gadget addict. We seem to fall into the trap of buying the advertisment, not the product. Just for the heck of it, go on a shoot with the barest minimum of equipment. You migh be surprised as what you need/dont need.

Forgot to add...the gadgets you do use get put in a place where you hav easy access. (Like a large marked plastic storage box)

The ones that you dont get placed in a storagebox some place easy to reach. Best place to get storage box is Home Depot or Target.

If you need a third storage box, you probably have to much equipment.

You are probably right but "stuff" is part of the fun.

Your are definatly right on this one. I know about excess equipment because I am... or was.. a advocate. But one day I realized that I had far to many gadgets. (Trust me, when I say far to many, I am not exaggerating).

So after I retired and moved into a condo, I was forced to get rid of a lot of "never-used-in-a-year stuff.

And the week after I got rid of it, dont you know I needed it.

Use a large fishing tackle box with or without labeling compartments. Check them out at any big box hardware or sporting goods store.
