I went to the first stop ( Berger Bros. ) of the Tamron road show on Sunday in Sysosset, LI ( NY ) and asked several of the employees the same question. There is NO date at all. At least none that Japan has sent their way. There never was a date, just some time in the future and any other date to the contrary is speculation, rumor or worse, a lie. One employee did indicate that as long as the Canon mount is selling so well, they will continue to crank out that mount. They can't switch back and forth. Final note, from two of the employees; Dealers should NOT be collecting any funds for pre-orders. They are not being charged; you should not be charged. And if you decide you no longer want it, you should not be held to the purchase; the dealer is not.

Thanks for that excellent post. "From the horse's mouth." I can understand the Canon/Nikon manufacturing conflict. Makes perfect sense.

Sounds like Tamron wants to be a Canon little brother. I think in the future I will call the 150-600mm lens the "Camron"

Remember that Disney song, "Someday My Prince Will Come"? Well, don't hold your breath waiting for that lens to come in a Sony mount. Tamron probably figures that their next largest audience is Nikon. "Follow the money."

Tamron is so far out of it's league it may never recover. They don't even have the Canon version right. What makes you think they will ever be able to make a Nikon version? If a Nikon version was possible for Tamron to make, they would have had ample supplies of BOTH before releasing a new lens. The story about Canon having exclusive release rights ( IMO) is BS!

Quit dreaming about rumors and do your photography with what you have.

I understand your anger and need to vent; however, I don't believe Tamron is trying to recover--they are making a lot of money selling the new lens. Secondly, they must have the Canon mount lens right or they wouldn't be selling so many and have so many satisfied customers. Only a few have had a problem which were fixed in a few days. You must have some insider information as a basis for your last two statements.

Not really a rant BUT, do you really think Canon gave up AF trade secrets to Tamron? And yes they are making a lot of money from the hype generated by a VERY few really good posted images and the desire to get a long reach lens for $1100.00. At best it's a compromise. AF is not consistent. Your keep rate is MUCH lower. (Thank goodness for digital).
I know from experience (about the HYPE thing). I bought a Sigma 150-500 two years ago. A very good lens capable of excellent photos....sometimes. It's just not consistent
and works better on older bodies.

As for the last two statements, no inside info, just my opinion.

I owned one Tamron lens, the 200-500 and it was a piece of crap...junk. I sent it in to them for adjustment, and when it came back it was still soft, and focus was inconsistant.
I sold it for half what I paid for it.
I got a Sigma 150-500 with their optical stabilization and its much better. Aproaching 500mm you need to stop down to f8-f10 since it can be a bit soft at the very long end wide open.

Yes. Do you really think Canon would let a whopper like that slide, if it was a whopper?

You haven't been looking then. I've seen many. I've seen the lens on a Canon body. In a word, sweet. Keep rate low? Nonsense.

Yes, that's a Sigma and this is a Tamron. Regardless, okay. As for older bodies, I have no idea. Sorry to hear of your issues. I will say what I always say about digital bodies; they are disposable.

As all of it was.

And I posted this only because I had the opportunity to ask people that actually work for Tamron and not dealers.

I don't know the inner workings between the two companies and I really don't care. I do know that Tamron has produced a well constructed, sharp lens for less money, and sharp images are being produced. Very few problems have been reported. From reports the keep rate is about the same for experienced Photographers. A little more experience is needed at the 600mm range on cropped sensors. The AF is quick and the Al Servo functions very well according to reports. Only a very few reports of problems and it appears Tamron took care of those quickly. I don't know what you mean by compromise as the lens is solidly built, good glass and a good price. Hundreds are on the waiting list and I know they wouldn't be if there were problems.

Hey Michael66, thanks for the personal information you posted on the availability of the new Tamron 150-600mm lens with the Nikon mount. I know a lot of people are eagerly waiting for its release.
As far as opinions are concerned, we all have them & I respect yours as well as others on UHH.
I do hope Tamron is able to fix the Canon AF issues quickly as this is probably pushing back a release date for the Nikon mount while still making more Canon mount lenses to meet all the back orders. I wonder if the newest production lenses will have the AF issues corrected before they leave the factory. MAYBE that's why there is a delay. Maybe they stopped shipping because of the AF issue. Who knows. Probably only the CEO & top engineers at Tamron.

Again, Thanks for posting the info you got from the Tamron employees.
