For some unknown reason I'm looking at all the latest cameras and going crazy. Does any one else have this disease. I have a Canon sx50, Fujifilm X20 and a Leica D-lux4. I can't carry a large camera any more so I still have to keep weight in my consideration. I am looking at mirror less 4/3 and really fancy the Olympus OMD EM10. Viewfinder is a must. Street photography is my passion. To get the EM10 I will have to sell some, or all of my stable. Need advice, Shall I do it. Or is there a pill for my disease.

It's a swirling pit of doom. There is no known cure for Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

Buying more stuff only fuels the fire. ;)

Do it! There's no cure for this disease except an angry wife. If you need a new camera for physical reasons and you can sell some stuff to get it, why would there be a problem?

There are no meds for GAS, it's terminal, but it's a great way to go.

Oh! I didn't think of "physical reasons" maybe I can get this on Medicare.

Many of us have the disease. Hope your wife is understanding- through sickness and health.

EM10 with the 17mm 1.8 is a great street combo...

Don't hold your breath. They have a strict list of bona fide illnesses and G.A.S. ain't one of them.

My wife today said, wow, I didn't know you had a square lens hood today...I said it all depends on the lens, they all have a different one...(and this one -25mm f1.4, somehow snuck into my camera bag this past week) :-)

At the G.A.S. Support Group meetings, the main topic isn't "how to stop buying gear," it's "how to buy effectively," making purchases which make sense for your budget and goals, without being redundant.

It seems like you have a great street photography camera in the Fujifilm X20. You also have two bridge cameras. One for each hand? There is no pill for this, unfortunately, only discipline and interventions. Use what you have already decided to buy. If you want to make real progress, sell one of the bridge cameras. They are supposed to be "all-in-one" cameras, so they get jealous if you have more than one. :-D

If you were looking at Nikon gear, it is a well-documented condition known as NAS - Nikon Acquisition Syndrome - but yours is probably the variant that affects a larger population - GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

There are 4 primary treatment regimens.

Marry an independently wealthy significant other.
Win the Lottery.
Rob a bank.
Change your address to "under a rock" and never leave your home.

Hi Mel, and welcome to your GAS support group... The key here is to face your GAS squarely, and avoid redundancy in the process. GAS is all about Effective Gear Evolution, and the UHH can very successfully assist in that endeavor. Above, several posters have already nailed it for you: Amehta's post and Cdouthitt's post(s). Sell one, or both, bridge cameras and get the EM10 and the 17mm. I suspect the Oly will indeed make your life better! Aahhhhh, see, that wasn't so bad after all. ;) :-D

Quit dreaming. You obviously think you have to have what everyone has. Learn photography basics. You are probably not proficient in any of the cameras you have already.
