I always read that some people use photoshop to improve there photo.todays technology keeps us from taking better original photos without using means to improve or correct the way they took the photo. It also does not give people to compete in photo contests since they may not have photoshop to improve there pictures.

Picasa is a free editor that can help with small issues. Below is a link to the free download. Don't the more "serious" competitions have rules against excessive post-processing?

There are lots of things you can do in-camera that change an image too :)

Even just under-exposing will give richer colors to sunsets.

Photographers have always "touched up" their shots. It's called dodging & burning. Photoshop adds new technology to the process.

PS isn't the only tool out there. Are you a Mac user? Pixelmator for Mac works great, and it's only thirty dollars.

Lots of folks do, and not just Photoshop.

No it doesn't. It just is what it is: Post Processing software. It can't "keep" you from anything, it's just a tool.

If a person chooses to take crappy shots and them massage the daylights out of them in Photoshop...oh well...that's their choice.

But using Photoshop is neither good nor bad in and of itself, it's the digital equivalent of the darkroom.

Not necessarily. A good shot is a good shot no matter how one arrives at it.

If you take blah shots then it's not Photoshop's fault.

Welcome to our forum!

Although rich people always have the advantage in everything, there are less costly ways to process images than Photoshop.

See what you've done! Now all 46,000 members of UHH know that you're rich. :D
