A few photos from a nest I like to watch. It was really active yesterday!
C&C welcome. Hand held shots with my Sigma 500mm lens.

VERY nice! I know how far away you are from the nest. :-)

Thank you. I just wish you could have seen them. Maybe someday.

I have to ask were you sitting in the tree.

LOL!! Not quite! I would guess about 200 yards away, but according to Exif data from different photos taken from the same location it is 110 yards away.
Janyce (cosmo54) might be able to give a better estimate as to distance away? She was there last Sunday. What do you think Janyce?
Using a 500mm lens does make things seam close. I have a couple of gift cards from my kids and I have been trying to decide what to use them on. Maybe I will invest in a range finder. Got to see if Dick's sporting goods has one on sale.
Here is the original photo before cropping.

Jim - I'm not good at judging distance, but it was pretty bad darn far away. Without my 500 i could tell it was an eagle from the white head but ONLY bec of that.
If I didn't live 2+ hours away I'd come down more often!

Janyce,
Yes, it is a shame you live so far away. I am sure if you look around there is a camera club near you. If you could find one somebody could tell you where there is a nest closer to you.
My kids had gotten me a few gift cards so I used them at a Dick's Sporting goods store and got myself a range finder. Next time I am at the nest I will use it. It is accurate to within 1 yard from 11 to 550 yards. I will find out how far away it is.
Did you get any good photos of that nest? You were using your 500mm lens so you should have. If so post a couple.
