"El cheapo" is a sigma 70-300 I bought mew for $150. I almost never use it but I have been exercising it this wee for the sake of "what is never used gets ruined"--(direct translation). So, I take lots of photos and select the best. Today it is the turn for the Anhinga that stopped by early in the morning.
Hope you like them.

Good pictures. This looks so similar to our cormorants that I had to look them both up on Wiki. The Anhinga even dries its wings like the cormorant.

Nice series! Sigma has made about 6 versions of the 70-300 lens. I don't have any info on the newest OS version but did a lot of research on the non OS versions as I was interested in the "macro" (1:2) feature. The version with the red ring on the lens barrel seems to have the highest rating in the reviews that I read. I've found that if I use it on a tripod, I get extremely good results. Hand held, not so much.

Keep shooting & having fun. Enjoyed your photos.

You're doing a nice job with what you have. Some of the best photographers in the world did't have top of the line equipment. Keep on shootin' and posting Bubu.

OK! Miine has the red ring. I am in luck!

Just don't extend it all the way. Hang back to 26-285mm and tighten the aperture a bit and you should be fine.

That should get sharper, then, I hope.

Thank you! I am using it a lot lately and following advise not to push it to 300mm. I am getting better photos with it.

This was today and it looks nice to me. Same "cheapo" lens trying to find the good spots on it.

It is a nice shot Bubu. You might want to lighten the bird up just a tad bit and it will show it's eye and some detail a little more. You don't need expensive equipment to have fun and take good images. It's the pixel peekers that think they do anyway.

Under those conditions, it looks just fine to me! I am speaking with authority here. Lol Most of my posts here are done with the cheapest 75-300mm lens that Sony has to offer.
