I am going to enter my first local art exhibition. THe theme is Long Island (where I live) and the work should represent the landscape or the location, people, etc of Long Island. I have decided I am going enter a maximum of 6 pieces. I am finding it hard to have perspective on my own work, so could you please tell me which ones you like the most, maybe rank them. I am going to upload about 10 pictures. Thank you all so much for your help!

By the way...they can't be too "cooked". They said minimal enhancement or retouching preferred. That is gonna be hard for me...so I stayed away from my more processed saturated looking photos. But I really do process all my photos to a degree.

Speaking as someone just learning the craft of photography:

I suspect #1 might ,ay appeal to photographers more than to the general public. For me, their is a bit too much area that is a bit too much out of focus. It almost hurts my eyes. It is a nice concept though.

#2 should certainly go into the exhibit. Wonderful colors and reflection. I like the geometric composition.

#3 Very pleasing. Looks almost like a painting. It doesn't look as much like a real winter scene as it would have with snow. Hay, you were able to control the waves in pictures 5 and 6. Surely getting it to snow would have been easier than that.

#4 Oh yes -- include it.

#5 and #6. I strongly prefer #5. Wonderful shot. The reflections make the picture. Too bad that boat came along and made the waves further out.

#7. For my personal taste, the colors on the dock need to be pulled back a little. It almost looks like an "overcooked" HDR shot. I'm also bothered by the perspective. It looks like the horizon isn't straight but if you just correct that, then the dock would look like it is leaning even more than it already does. The horizon leans one way and the dock leans the other way. If you tried to fix it, then the light pole on the dock would be leaning. However, the picture has a very peaceful feel and fits the exhibit theme very well so should be included.

#8. A beautiful tree, but I think the background is too busy. It keeps the tree from standing out as it should.

Please take my comments with a grain of salt. I'm very much in the learning stage. It was fun to look at your work and try my hand at a little c&c.

I'll be anxious to see what others will have to say.

Thank you! I know...they are not icons of LI...but they are located in public places. I am so confused ...I guess it is a crap shoot. There is only one man who will be judging and picking the submissions...so hard to know what he would like. THank you for your input...thank you very much!

Thank you! It actually was quite a beautiful day. I started out that morning trying to get a sunrise but as it always seems to happen, when I drag myself out of bed at 5am the sun hides behind clouds! lol But I started driving around and found this park...the sun was still low and the light hitting the trees was spectacular. Thank you!
