Edward Snowden - hero?

Is Edward Snowden America's Hero?

Edward Snowden is offering Germany his help with investigating NSA spying activities on its soil, if Berlin grants him political asylum, Stern reports, citing correspondence with the whistleblower.

“I have a great respect for Germany,” Snowden wrote to the German Stern publication. The former NSA contractor also wrote that he would be willing to help German officials investigate alleged NSA spying in Germany, if he is granted asylum.

Not fearing possible prosecution and extradition to the US, the whistleblower noted that no one in the German government seriously believes that the US will “implement sanctions against Germany in response to criticism of illegal surveillance” because it will cause “greater harm to the US rather than Germany.”

Snowden doubts the ability of US Congress to implement any reforms, following a report by an expert panel tasked with reviewing NSA global surveillance activities released by the White House earlier this week. The Secret Service Committee, Snowden wrote, is praising the intelligence services rather than keeping them in check.

History will ultimately decide. To the PEOPLE, he's a hero for exposing the depth of snooping by the NSA; it has forced new regulations to be imposed. To MOST government officials he is a goat/traitor whom they'd like to see deported and tried in the USA.

Upside: He's making the people take a stronger look at this government that has really gone amok. The elections in November will bear this out.

Mr. Snowden belongs in jail in the United States.
He had too many options open to him that he didn't take and decided instead to run to Russia like the coward he is.
Now he doesn't like it there and he thinks he can go to Germany.
If he's got something to say, he should come back to the United States and say it and stop trying to scurry into another rat hole.

Agreed. After he has had his say, I will ask for 5 volunteers to form a firing squad. And volunteers?

I am of the People and I do not think of him as a hero nor do any of my friends and family. He is a traitor to America, plain and simple. Snowden had other options of handling what he thought was wrongdoing by our government. He could have contacted a Congressman or Senator who he believed in. He could have contacted a major news agency, not with specific information but with information that the government was doing wrong by spying on us, the citizens.

In my opinion he should be brought home to America in handcuffs and given a trial for treason.

Must agree that Snowden had many other options, that he did not take!! Shame on him for not trying them. He should have attempted something like that done in exposing the Watergate scandal for starters.
