I use a PC for work, I communicate via email using Outlook, I send quotes using both Excel and Word, and most of the communications I get from my major suppliers are in Word. Here’s my question, what issues would I have in switching to Mac?

The answer is none, I work in both no problems

The applications mentioned are all "cross platform" and designed to work both with PCs and Macs.
You shouldn't have any problems. Of course, Murphy does ride a tall horse.....

Go for the Mac!

Thanks guys, I really want to switch to Mac but I'm pretty nervous about it. I'll probably wait until fall when I'm not quite so busy but I think I've finally decided to make the jump. It's nice to find out I'm still young enough to experience that excitement and apprehension at the same time.
Thanks again

Thanks but I'm not so concerned or nervous about learning to use it or it's programs. I more concerned about being able to interact with my customers without a lot of hassle. For example I have thousands of emails in Outlook folders that are important and I need to be able to access and share that information. I have thousands of documents in MS Word that I need to be able to access and share and the same with MS Excel. I have presentations that I use regularly on both MS Publisher and Power Point so I need to know just what I can and can't do in order to prepare myself for the change. I know I need to do some investigation and I will but I wanted to ask here because the folk here on the hog are always so generous with their information and assistance.

You should not have any major problems, especially with the MS software as stated b4 the files are readable by the mac so there is no problem there. To be safe keep the other system up and running while you convert over the Mac....

Thanks and that's good advice. How much of an issue will I have transferring MS (especially Outlook and Excel) files over to the Mac?

you shouldn't, use a flash drive to xfer the files and when loaded onto the Mac it should convert the file so that you can read it and when you save it onto the mac your golden....

And if your really nervous, if you get the Mac at a local apple store, they would be able to xfer the files to you mac while you go shopping......

Thanks sr71 throws me back into my comfort zone. The nearest Apple store is a two hour drive so I'll be doing this myself. I'm confident I can figure it out with the help of folks like you, I just wanted to be certain that what I want to do is not only possible but relatively easy as well.

If you have to ask the question it is obvious you do not know the answer. The Mac was designed for the user. PCs are made to enrich Billy-Bob Gates!

The nearest Apple tech is @ the other end of your telephone. It doesn't get any closer. Where will you go for assistance on the "other" type?

There's a well thought out helpful response. Probably a good indicator why Bill-Bob Gates has your panties in a wad.

Hi Pepper,
There should be no issues with email from PC to Mac. I decided back in '03 to make the switch and have never regretted doing so. I still have a Windows laptop that I hate using because every time I turn it on I have to wait for updates, very annoying. And there are some programs you might want to run that aren't Mac compatible. But overall it was the best computer decision I have ever made. Mac also has: The MacU.com that teaches many of it's programs and features. I promise you won't regret switching but may wonder why you waited so long.

I have IT techs available from my corporate office.
