Would appreciate Hedgehogs sharing experiences using LED lighting for photography or video. I am looking at the Genaray LED 7000 from B&H. This can be mounted on or off camera. I use a D800.

I use a similar LED apparatus and found out that the light level falls off really fast.

I use them (I have three) for close ups and macro.

The one you are looking at is more powerful but when I see that the measurement is made at 3 feet I am left doubtful as to being that much better.

When and if you purchase it, test it immediately so that you can return it if it falls short of your expectation.

I think LEDs will be "ready for prime time" soon, maybe in a year or two. But for now, it is very expensive to get the amount of light we can get from hot lights or CFLs.

I have an LED light with 160 led's and consider it the absolute minimum for any kind of serious work. I am now looking at 312 led versions - they cost more but are worth it ! Also, I would try and get one that can take AA batteries as an option. My 160 takes AA's. The rechargeable lithiums are the ultimate - but nice to have AA's for backup....

I have started to see lots of LED light panels in use, I have seen several broadcast or commercial beta cam that use LEDs as light source vs that hot light you usually see on broadcast news cameras. The larger LED panels can certainly get expensive.
