Lightroom Mobile

The new Lightroom Mobile iPad app looks very promising! Just got it installed and a few pics synced, but gives a lot of functionality in viewing. Has edit capability, but I suspect I'd rather do that on the desktop. But, hey, it was free with CC.

Yup, installed mine this afternoon. Haven't quite figured out how I want to use it yet. Probably I'll just have it sync with my last months worth of photos so that it'll be easier to share than with smugmug.

Got my notice but haven't downloaded it yet. Haven't figured out how I will use it on my iPads. I'd bet that it is a power hog.

Got a notice in Lightroom about it today, but since I'm an Android user I'll have to wait until the Android version is released.

Actually, I find it very well behaved. The one noticeable thing is that the images transferred to your iPad will consume space. Mine is an 8Gb iPad Mini, and one thing is for certain . . . . I won't be able to put all my photos there! :-)

I haven't downloaded mine yet, but think it'll be good for quick edits, on jpegs, before uploading to FB, etc. Too bad it won't handle RAW. Anyone know if it will export to Photoshop Touch on the iPad?

All photos I've synced to it since installation have been DNG (raw) files. Might even be a PSD file in the mix. I'll have to look. Maybe it converted them to JPGs.

Not familiar with PS Touch, so can't address that.

I thought it worked off the smart preview files...to keep the file sizes down...cause there is no way that I have the capacity on my ipad for all the RAW files it is syncing with.

Everthing I've read so far (yesterday) says the iPad cannot handle RAW files. That said, I've never tried to download RAW to my iPad. I'll try tonight. Still probably not a great idea with the size of RAW files from a D800 to a 68GB iPad.

PS Touch is a very limited subset of PS, for the iPad. Better than PS Express for mobile devices.

You guys are ahead of me!! I had hoped to get some time to play with it today, but it got busy, and this evening is getting busy! :-(

What you say makes perfect sense.

As I related to Cdouthitt, you guys are ahead of me. Hopefully will get some time to play with it in the next day or two. I am really only evaluating it as an online sharing point (maybe drop a couple of services I'm using). I won't do much PP work on my laptop, much preferring my desktop, so I know I won't be doing any PP on the iPad. :-) I do use Snapseed on occasion to embellish an iPhone/iPad snapshot. Other than that, my work gets done on my desktop.

You guys have fun!! Now I know who to ask my questions to!! :-) Thanks.

Yeah, it seems the Android folks always have to wait for their version! I've watched several apps go that route. Maybe they won't take long. Have you inquired as to whether there will be an Android version?

I wonder if part of the problem with Android and apps is that it's an open system and every manufacturer adds different spins on how the OS 'operates'

There will be, just don't know how soon.

Certainly! With Apple's iOS, and the tight control that Apple puts on their operating system, compatibility issues are vanquished in the process. Not the case with Android. While I prefer the openness, I don't want to spend all my time 'fixing' stuff so it will work. I do enough of that already. When I pick up my phone or tablet, I just want it to work. And, while I dislike Apple's technical paradigm, I appreciate that I can count on using the devices to do what I need to do. Catch 22.
