With the idea that all the 300mm f/2.8 lenses from the past 10 years are very similar, you can look at the two galleries I have posted.

Check out imagemeister's profile. He regularly uses a 300 2.8 with a 2x extender and gets sharp shots. The 300 2.8 is regularly believed to be the sharpest lens from Canon. Arthur Morris raves about that piece of glass.
