Question for my Christian friends

I’m not sure posting this is a good idea but my curiosity got the best of my common sense. I was visiting with a young man last night and the subject of the anti-Christ came up. He asked if I thought that the anti-Christ could be a metaphor for a movement rather than an individual. I asked what led him to that conclusion and I was a bit surprised at his reasoning. Although I wasn’t convinced it was interesting and I was wondering if any of my Christians friends here on the hog had ever considered or heard of this view before.

(1 John 2:18 NIV) Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.

(1 John 2:22 NIV) Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist--he denies the Father and the Son.

(1 John 4:3 NIV) but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

(2 John 1:7 NIV) Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.

I believe that the Antichrist is not just one person but also many. I also think that it can also be a movement against Christianity such as we have now. One person such as a leader. Many people such as in the world today and any kind of movement as well.

If you believe God is everywhere then the same could be held true for the Antichrist, therefore where Christ was the Son Of God and Christianity is everywhere, the Antichrist could be an individual or a thing.

Take for instance, money, television, the internet, facebook, etc. All of these could be said to sway you from the path, from God, and therefore could be the Antichrist. Some say President Bush was while others here like to yell it is President Obama.

In my opinion, money, television, the internet, facebook, etc., are tools, like a gun. Use a gun for how it was meant and you may have a nice dinner. Use it in fear and you may kill someone. Either way it is a tool where how you use it determines good or evil. And to close the argument, none of the Presidents are the Antichrist as they have not meet the requirements set forth in the Bible.

To your point though, if you read the New Testament John states again and again, "... As you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. ..."
