For a variety of reasons I am leaving the Mac world and am using the opportunity to move from iPhoto/Aperture as well. I have read endless reviews (and used the Hog's search function) on both Elements and Lightroom because I can't afford the full PS... and wouldn't use most of the features anyway
Since it apparently comes down to a toss of the coin, I wonder what the consensus is (if any) among our eminent readership. Maybe even another program I'm not up on ? I m not a heavy pp guy anyway so this may be semantics but I am curious as to opinions. Thanks for the help
Lightroom is more user-friendly, and easier to get up to speed with, IMO. I've used both (and Photoshop).
Can't remember the last time I couldn't get done in LR what I needed done.
One of the other key reasons to use LR, IMO: unlike Elements (at least when I used it), the keywording/cataloging is integrated into the program, making it easy to keep organized at the time of download without having to "switch" programs.
The ONLY major feature PS and Elements have that LR doesn't is layers, but I haven't changed out a background in years, so I don't miss it.
I use lightroom for most everything, elements only for editing and using actions. I also use PS for more creative stuff but Lightroom is still my main go to for most everything.

I use LR and really like it though I went through MANY tutorials before I could really use it efficiently and I still know there is a lot I am not using. I am probably about to purchase Elements and Elements Premiere (they come bundled). LR will not do labels or integrate pics and vid into a show. LR will also not do cut and paste type applications. I guess that is the same as a layers operation which others have mentioned.
I don't intend to purchase Photoshop because I can't afford it and would probably never learn to use it enough to make it worth the purchase. I do have GIMP which is the poor man's Photoshop. I don't use it that much, but it can do a lot if you know how to use it, not that I do know how to use it, but there are tutorials out there for it as well.
LR was definitely worth my purchase and I expect that Elements will be too.
I use Lightroom most of the time but move to PSE for adjustments requiring pixel editing or layers
