Hi there,
I'm new here and already in need of some MAJOR info. Four months and 7 surgeries later I'm being told that I may never get feeling back in my arms and hands (they are constantly numb and hurts like heck). I'm no professional, but have been extremely fortunate getting press credentials for the Reno Air Races. So, my question is does anyone know of someone or a company that makes some sort of trigger for people like me? I can't feel the shutter button or have any feeling of holding the camera at all. Please, help if you can....Thx in advance,,Mike G. :?:
Welcome to the group.
You're the second person I've seen here who's posted a similar issue here with loss of sensation, dexterity.
I would start by letting your Physical Therapists know that photography is your passion. Recovery is psychological as well as phyisical and will only be improved by reconnecting with a treasured hobby/vocation.
Ask them to put you in touch with the folks who do thier prostheses for amputees. In my experience these folks are amazing engineers and love to tinker and problem solve for folks with needs they dont see every day.
One national "chain" of orthopedic/prosthetic creators is Hangar Orthopedics. If you can find one in your area, contact them, explain your issue, and see if they want to try to help. I know theyve done "out of thier box" stuff for partients all over the country. And, tell them its a marketing opportunity to a demographic noone is addressing. It might give them incentive.
Good Luck.
Rocco
When I came back to add some info, I saw that my 2-finger typing had misspelled, so I'm glad I had a second thought.
Its
Hanger Orthotics. (
www.hanger.com).
I wasnt sure where you were but they have 600 locations in the US. When I punched in Reno, NV. I found one in Reno, Carson City, and 8 locations within a couple of hours in California.
I really see this as a market to be explored. We have aging photographers with neuropathies, younger folks like yourself with unexpected changes in ability (including returning veterans), and many others with tremors, etc from illnesses.
I am envisioning a small sensitive "bulb" that perhaps could be used like a mouthpiece on a Camelback to trip the shutter.
This kind of stuff gets creative juices flowing...and improves quality of life for others.
Sorry, I took off on a tangent. I'm just trying to help.
Rocco
