I am still on my quest for a smaller than DSLR camera without interchangeable lens that delivers fairly decent image quality. For me the view finder is almost essential, but while searching and reading here on UHH about all the possibilities and opinions, someone mentioned the Hoodman Loupe. I have one, but only use it for viewing images on the LCD in bright sunlight.
My question is: does anyone use it to compose on the LCD in bright sunlight. If that works out than there is a whole new list of possible cameras without viewfinders for me to investigate.
Thank you for any input.

If you already own one, wouldn't it be simpler to go out and try it that way for yourself?

If the sun would come out one of these days, that would be an excellent idea.

Would love to have some warm weather shooting, especially flowers that are already blooming for all of you southern folks, but alas still working full time, at least until the end of this year. Then watch out. I'll be on a shooting rampage.
SUMMARY: YEP, THE HOODMAN OR KNOCK OFF, ARE GREAT WITH OUT THEM LEDs ARE USELESS IN BRIGHT SUN.
DISCUSSION: I purchased one years ago for my Ol' Kodak 4800 worked great. Now I have a 3" screen on my ZS20 Panasonic which in the sun is useless. The Hoodman is about half the price of the camera... humm, but on EBay found one for less than 20. It attaches with a magnetic ring that you attache to the camera. Would be better if it were made of rubber and collapsed small, but it does work and work well.
For my vision, less than perfect, very far cited, I Drummeled an old eyeglass lens to fit the view lens on the unit. Silicone "glue" was used to attach. Now I can take off my glasses and see every grain in the LED display.
On EBay: LCD Viewfinder Magnifer Extender Hood
Pop-Up-Shade on EBay also works.

So you modified an eyeglass lens for the Hoodman?

I bought their Cinema Kit Pro for the purpose you are asking about. The loop led me to it as I wanted to do just what you are asking about but I have to hold the loop. The Pro mounts on the camera and both hands are free; works fine with my glasses. Cost is $179 and I haven't regretted a penny of it. Have only tried cinema once...

Your requirements sound like you're describing the Canon SX-50. Very good camera for the money, and does better than 'decent' in my opinion. check it out. Nice viewfinder too.
