Monitor Contrast

I am posting this in the "Main Photography Discussion" section even though it is a link, because I am hoping others can shed some light on this issue for me through further discussion. This link is a monitor calibration tool. I found that it wasn't necessary to calibrate my Macbook Air 11inch display as much as it needed the correct tilt for proper viewing. I have had trouble deciding what is ideal/correct viewing on the laptop that I use for light PS editing when traveling. By using this tool I can determine the correct tilt for proper contrast rendition. If anyone else has a better suggestion I would appreciate hearing it.

Thanks for the link. I have the same trouble with my Air or my laptop...tilt angle. Are you simply displaying this and tilting until you see true black? Can you explain further? I do have a Spyder for calibration.

Yes, exactly. I sit the monitor on the table, on my lap, etc, wherever it will be for a particular session. I then tilt the screen until the calibration tool shows the best balance of true black, white and all the grays. Until the screen is at the optimal viewing tilt, how could one even begin to use the Spyder? BTW, I have thought of getting one. How does it work for you?

Have only used it on my desktop. Works well as long as it's used periodically and then the monitor is used under identical lighting conditions.

Thanks for the answer.

I see we're just a few miles from each other - Shokan.

Thanks for that link.
