What causes this ?

This seems to happen about 10% of the time.

SanDisk Extreme 16gb, 120 MB/s compactFlash.

Happens on canon 7D, 1D and 5D cameras. As far as I can tell it only happens when I am in the RAW mode. All of the JPEGs looked fine.

I think I know the answer, but I want to hear from you guys to confirm my suspicions.

I have converted one of the RAWs to JPEG so I can attach it to this message.

thanks.

3 different cameras but same Disk?..humm? I would get rid of the common denominator..Try a different disk for a while and see if it still happens.

YOu have the very same issue from multiple camera's. I assume on more than one memory stick… Correct? not the same SD disk/card.

Are you re-formatting card? try that first. I read where it is good practice to reformat card every time you empty it and before using in a different camera- format THROUGH camera software after you insert it. So card is formatted by the camera you are using it in…

I assume the images appear ok on the LCD on back of camera.

Process of elimination:
Take just the card to somewhere else and load.
Then add cord you are using,
Then the card reader you are using…(if you use one)
etc., etc.

I expect it will be a format problem or a software corruption issue on card. Or on whatever computer you are using,

I concur. Easiest first step.

I would think the CF card has a glitch in writing the files.

You should be able to get it replaced by Sandisk, as they have a lifetime warranty on their cards, if you can prove it is a genuine Sandisk product.

Reformatting on a computer, but not the quick reformat, then format again on one of your camera bodies might take care of it. Problem is you won't know until it happens again, can you afford to lose that shot it might glitch on?

Maybe test it by rapid fire shots to fill the buffer and then the card to see if all the files survive.

I would think the CF card has a glitch in writing ... (show quote)

This happened to me one time with an Sandisk 4 GB SD card in my D300S. However, the camera did give me an error message: "Error in writing file to disk". You could not view it on the camera. When I looked at it on my computer, it looked just like yours, only an eagle, not an elephant.

I contacted Sandisk and they told me to format the card in the camera. I told them that I always do that. They said it could not be their disk, it was my camera. It was an old SD card, so I just disposed of it.

Yep! You've got to get three new cameras. :D

You might try formatting the card with your computer and then format it in the camera, just as an experiment. It sounds like that card has reached the end of the road. Maybe SanDisk will replace it. It looks like it might have a Lifetime warranty.

A computer tech informed me the SD memory cards use the same file structure as a computer.

He suggested I use my computer to reformat my 64gigabyte SD card which had become corrupted.

This reformat by computer resolved the SD card corruption.
