Just curious if any hogs shoot Mamiyas, Leicas, Hasselblads, etc, medium format digitals and if you do could you please post an image or two so we could lust and dream?

Are they as rugged and versatile as DSLRs ?

Can you use DSLR lenses on them ?

Are they as fast as DSLRs ?

Inquiring minds...

Which model of Leica medium format are you thinking about? I have a digital back for my Sinar................. but it is to attach my Nikon bodies. Not what you would call 'Full Frame.'

The truth is, I don't know that much about the format other than what i read in an article that says digital medium format cameras are getting smaller. I guess I just mean the latest in medium format digital technology in general. Please share images though.

The relatively inexpensive way to get in to medium format digital photography is to get a MF film system and have the film scanned. It costs about $1-2 per image, so you should be careful when doing this. But a 6x7cm Velvia slide looks really impressive. :-)

Well........... Have you ever seen a Leica medium format camera
, digital or otherwise?? My Sinar camera has an adapter plate which can accommodate any Nikon camera body. So I can fit my D300 to the Sinar Camera, and use the lenses / movements of the Sinar, and record them on the Nikon digital camera. Does that explain well enough??

Hi,
May I ask you what kind of lens are you using? since - to my knowledge - it is either hard to find, or it is really-realy expensive to get (let's say) a 50mm lens for the sinar 4x5 camera.
That means that you will be obliged to work all the time with telephoto lenses, - if you insist on using a Nikon camera on a Sinar body.
Even a 70mm or 80mm super-wideangle lens for the Sinar, will only be applied as a medium telephoto lens for your Nikon.
-Right?

The Leica S system is medium format. The 30 x 45mm sensor size is just a bit bigger than the 24x36 sensors that "full-frame" cameras have.

I can use any of my arsenal of lenses from 75mm Super Angulon, to 210 Symmar. The 75mm is still usefull for studio individual shots of small objects, that need the camera movements for perspective correction. Saves on the expense of a 5 x 4 sheet of film for each one. I don't insist on using the Nikon on the Sinar, but having bought both over the years, why should I not use that combination. Also saves me buying a Nikon Tilt-Shift lens.

You might want to consider that view cameras do not focus the same ways as a 'regular camera'. The planar 3D motion of both front and back are possible because of that difference so a 80 mm in a view camera is not a 'mid telephoto' in a view camera or adapted camera back. The only trouble is that the sensor is recessed into the back and this limits the motions possible in order to present a full sensor picture (too much motion and you get a projected shadow - among other weird effects).

To me it sounds like a waste but then again it depends of the application so hard to tell. As the user mentioned it beats paying $#k for an imperfect lens sold as what is a gadget if you have the real thing available.

As to drooling, I hold my own with a wet towel and accompanying bathtub. I should never had sold my RB67 as scanning medium format negative/slides has come a loooooong way.

Correct...a 75mm lens used with the Nikon digital camera back, will be a medium telephoto effect lens. That is what one would normally use for studio/table-top /close-up shots of small items... eg. Tablet boxes, small packaging items....Have you not done this sort of work?

But of course...!
This is my specialization. Still-life/table-top.

1. Some are, others are not.
2. No, not even with adapters, the image circle is just too small.
3. Some are, some are not.

I shoot the Pentax 645's as they are as close to a 35mm size DSLR as you can get and great to handle in the field.

Yes now you make more sense, and yes, Leica makes Medium Format Cameras.
