I have a Nikon D5100. I am thinking of buying the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF lens. Does anyone used or own this lens? Any suggestions or comments on this lens. Thanks.

There are several reviews of this lens. I also have been looking at it. Sounds like it would be a serviceable lens for the money, but with some quirky features regarding switching from manual to autofocus and with a slow auto focus that you might want to investigate further.

I have same camera , I bought this lens you are asking about and had trouble with it , and have a 6 year warrantee with it and have sent it back twice, it didn't cost anything no even shipping But , 1st time it worked good except it would not focus when you were in a 70 to about 100 range , I sent back 2nd time now if you are around the 250-300 range it won't focus, I called them and talked to them and they suggested taking camera to have it checked, I borrowed a Nikon 28-250 lens from a friend, and it works very good , so I think even though I will be losing from 250 - 300 this is way I am going ,my suggestion if you have a camera store near you go to store with you camera and give it a try I may have gotten a bad one -- by the way I did have camera check and was told it was not camera

I use this lens on my D40 and have never had a problem with it. I've had it for 2 years. Focus is sharp; auto focus is great. I have also used it with my d3000 with similar results (always good). I highly recommend it.

I have the lens. Shot a basketball game with it. Not a fast lens, especially out past 200mm. Low light in the gym.Used manual setting of 1/320 sec. 800 ISO .$130.00 used off the Bay.
I used the lens out side in the sun taking pix of grand kids & it was surprisingly awsome. send me PM & I could email ya some samples.

I have a Tamron 70-300 VC AF lens, not Macro. I've never heard of the Macro. Do you mean macro?

I love my lens. No problems, but I haven't used it that much. I shoot with a Nikon D7000.

Use it on D7000 It is fast to focus incredibly sharp. VC seems to work well. For the money it buries the nikon 70-300 which is not sharp or fast to focus. Got mine for 280 bucks used from amazon. well worth it.

I've recently been using this (non-VC with the macro switch) on a D90. I'd say for the price ($110 new on Amazon) its a good way to start, especially for a newb like me. The first four shots at https://www.flickr.com/photos/140249051@N03/with/44535261294/ were using this lense.
