This is my first post and I need some insight. My wife bought me a Nikon d5100 for my birthday and I am trying to learn how to use it in a mode other that automatic. I have settled on Aperture Priority to start, but some of my pictures just don't look right. It almost looks like they have a blue tint to them. Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess your white balance was not correct. You want to try putting it on automatic, or the shade or clowdy setting.

Check the white balance setting it. My Canon has a color balance setting and when I first got it it was set way to blue.

I agree; I think your white balance is off. I set my Cannon to AUTO white balance when I'm outside, and it does a great job.

Definitely white balance! Did you save them as RAW? If so, you can fix this VERY easily.

Yup, looks like WB. You probably have it set on Tungsten for daylight shots.

In my opinion, all three are too blue in color.

I tried a 5100 but returned it to the store. I didn't like the manual that came with it so I went to Barnes and Noble and picked up David Busch's Nikon D5100 Guide to Digital SLR Photography [Paperback] and Nikon D5100 for Dummies. I understood the camera a lot better with those books.

On the top of your camera, you should see two green buttons. When you hold down both buttons for 1-second, your camera will revert to Manufacturer settings, including Auto white balance. This may also change your ISO setting to 200, but you can easily rest to desired sensitivity.

It ii/wa s definitely white balance. Your camera white balance is/was set on tungsten (light bulb) which causes natural light to come out looking blue. You need to change to daylight (sun) or Automatic which will give you much better color
