Most cameras can shoot video at about 30FPS. You can download Picassa from GOOGLE for free and use it to import files from the camera (I also use it as my organizer. But here is the real beauty! As you view the video you can pause it and take a jpeg snapshot then save it. Great for sports and fireworks. Much cheaper than a new camera!

I love Picasa for quick and dirty jobs and for exporting my edited work to my Google+ account where I can share with friends and family or the whole world if I want to. I use PSE and Premiere Elements for the tougher jobs. I believe my D5200 will also let me grab a single frame during playback. You've made me curious, I need to check that feature of my camera out more closely!

The downside of this is that DSLR cameras do not take video at the same resolution as they take still images. Your "screen shot" will be of lower quality than if you had taken a still image of the same scene. Check your cameras video resolution choices to see its highest quality settings.

1080p video is a very wide 2mp image. Ok for facebook, but not much else.

All that is true but I have had success in resizing and resampling the image in Photoshop Elements
