Nikon D600 Send back

Hi all: I am really paranoid about sending my D600 back to Nikon. My other camera is a D5100 and I don't want to be without my D600 for long. I do not see any spots in my test for spots photos. Should I be paranoid or just bite the bullet and send it back????

Sending it back is no big deal. I sent two of them, and they both got reconditioned and returned safely. I sent mine Priority Mail, and I followed it as it traveled. It took just one day to get to Nikon. One camera came back to me in about a week, but the other had to wait for parts. That took about a month. Insuring it will give you peace of mind.

Nikon is slow to notify you about when they receive it and send it to you. The PO will say that it has been delivered, but you might not get a confirmation from Nikon for a day or two. It's the same with the return. You will probably have the camera back home before Nikon tells you that they sent it.

Be sure to keep all the paperwork as proof that it was repaired.

You can start the process on the Nikon site.

JC, I see no reason to be in a rush though at some point you will want to get the shutter updated. Google "d600 service advisory". The first hit you will get is from Nikon. There is no deadline and the warranty doesn't have to be in affect. Do it now or do it later but you should get the new shutter at some point- that is only prudent. ;)

Send it!! Consider . . . there was some sort of an issue with the production run of the D600 where the shutter mechanism just wasn't right. After a few months of testing and redesign, Nikon started making new shutter mechanisms to fix the issue. They are now available to you for free and it should give you substantial peace of mind (which is priceless) as you move forward with your D600.

Send it!! It'll take a month, but . . . .

Depending on where you live the turnaround will be anywhere from a week to a month. I sent one of mine back and it was home in 10 days, and that included the St. Pats 3 day weekend.
I have another one that was a trade-in on a D800E in the store and will be sending that one in as soon as it comes back from rental tomorrow. You've got nothing to lose but a few days shooting time, Nikon even pays the shipping both ways.

As usual, Jerry, a very helpful post. I am considering buying a used D600 from a private party. If I purchase the camera, may I send it to Nikon for shutter replacement? Thanks again for your helpful info.

If the owner hasn't had it replaced, Nikon will do that for you - for free.

Let me get this straight---you are not having any problems with your camera but feel you should send it back just in case it may develop problems later?? I thought that the later D600 had the repairs made before sale and it was the earlier models that had the spots. I know the D610 came out with issue fixed but thought they caught it in later D600 models. So anyone who buys a D600 can just send it in even though no problem exists??

I thought so too. Checked with Nikon and my serial # matched the time frame for the recall. I told them I could not see any spots, had my sensor cleaned a month after getting the camera, no problem since. They said ship it back anyway. So off it went this morning😟

Nikon will check the camera by SN via the website and let you know if yours is eligible. If it is, they will send you a shipping label to ship it back to them at their cost for the replacement.
