We recently spent three weeks in southern Africa (Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cape Town), 16 days in the bush and the remainder in Cape Town. After a good deal of reading and thinking, I decided to purchase the Canon SX50 and take it as my only camera. I also took a monopod which I placed between my legs on the floor of the jeep and, for the most part, it worked very well. I shot a good deal in shutter priority and I had the “vivid” selection on for most of the stills and the video. Of course not all of my pictures were good, even with the monopod, but I got a number of good ones, at least to my standards. CC at will.

Loved the Giraffe and dusk photos.

All that matters is you're happy with your SX50 and the photos you get with it.

Very nice set. I particularly like the zebras. I'd love to see the Lilac-breasted Roller without the PP artsy look.

That bird was unreal, never saw one like that !
And I very much like those Mountain Zebras, the composition I think is outstanding with the little wild flowers...and the animals are tac sharp !

You did very well with your SX50. That is a trip that makes the majority of the photographers visiting the area to carry or rent a big gun such as a 600mm f4 with their dSLR.
By the way, I love the zebras and the lion hiding behind the bushes but the others are fine too.

Sorry, can't help it, gotta do it - the second one is actually a Giraffe, not a Zebra. Other than that I love them all. I have got an SX50 and if I could do that with it I would be very pleased.
