This is a marten also known as a sable that I photographed in a tree near my camp. Marten are in the weasel family along with fishers which are a fair amount larger than a marten and black in color.

I have no idea how elusive these little guys are. His coloring is beautiful and the photo in the brown leaves makes this nice. sometimes you just take what you can get and this color combo works well.

They are very elusive at times. They have up and down population numbers. Their fur is absolutely beautiful. They are considered a sable.

And obviously they climb trees....I never thought of weasels, sabels, minks, etc. as tree climbers.....really awesome shot!
