We were in Yosemite a couple weekends ago with temperatures in the low 70's during the day but dipping down to the high 30's during the night. We found someone climbing up the face of El Capitan on Saturday and Sunday. I shot these 3 on Saturday afternoon. This person was about half way up. On Sunday, he was still a ways from the top.

The first shot is a close up taken with my Canon 100-400 from about 1/4 of a mile or so away then cropped. The next 2 shots I backed off to give you the magnitude of this chunk of granite. The last shot represents about 60% of the total size, you can barely see him. Download and zoom in to see further detail. There is a bag of equipment hanging below him too.

Thank you for your comment. Climbers must have nerves of steel! I do not.

Great shots, and I won't even comment about the sanity of the climbers.

Hi there, thank you for your comments. Yes, there is a lot of information right now on the 150 yr. anniversary. Not sure these shots would be good enough though. Thanks for suggesting, I will look into it further. I posted some other shots last week that were better I think.

I like your Avatar...is that a P-51? There must be something pretty powerful spinning those 6 blades....RR Merlin maybe?

Hi Chris, it's a highly modified P-51. It flies in the unlimited class, It's the only flying griffon powered Rolls Royce engine. The props are contra-rotating. Thom Richard is the pilot. I think you need to come to Reno in Sept to see the air races. :)
