I took this picture tonight. I'm playing with using the nearly full moon as a light source for a project this winter. My ultimate goal is something that can be blown up to poster size, so I know I'll want to keep my ISO low. For this shot, was on my Canon 7D, 28-135mm (30mm), f/3.5, ISO 250, 30 second exposure. The moon is in a clearing sky to the left of the frame. Some overcast in the background blocks the stars pretty well, which may be just as well with a long exposure like this.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Now that is different. Pretty neat.
I would like to see a 1-minute and a 2-minute moon-light exposure, bordering on "normal" exposure.
Your profile says California, but that shot has snow in it...you dont have snow in California do you?

I do not live in California anymore. I am currently in Fairbanks, AK. So yeah, a bit snowier here.
We get snow in California--just took my kids to Big Bear last week to play in the snow.

By all means experiment. Depth of field, Looks like movment in the trees. Try an extremely still night if possible. Star light on a clear night may also add mystery, even at lengthy exposures. Involoving the moon itself can be good. Experiment. Example
That 1st shot is great, PhotoSteve!
Oh yes! I was raised in Chico California...we had snow up above chico...in Paradise and higher...also went skiing at mnt Shasta....I know there is snow in California...I was just being a wise-arse....lol

Would like to see it converted to B&W.
Why do people not know there is snow in California? Stop and think of the mountain ranges. There are the Trinities, the Cascades, and the Sierra's . When growing up I remember my father having to climb out a bedroom window in order to get out of the house because the snow was too deep to open any doors. We lived on the edge of the Lassen National Forest. I have ridden my horses in the snow on the Southern California desert.
Two years ago I took my Grandson up to Mt. Lassen to see the snow. I will try to get some of those downloaded a little later.
There is snow even in Hawaii. Up high of course.

Used to live in the high Sierra in CA; moved to Eastern WA after we got 8 ft of snow in 3 weeks in CA. Lots of places in CA get snow.
Here is one at 183 seconds with just a 1/4 moon
