I just found out that Lightroom 5 is not compatible with windows vista. So I have to buy a new computor. Would you suggest windows 7 0r 8.1? Any info on this would be helpful. I would like to get a laptop with good resolution. Thanks.

You've raised an interesting question for me--is there a laptop monitor that has color depth and accuracy to match a monitor designed for photo work connected to a desktop? I've been doing all my photo editing with Lightroom and Elements on a desktop because my laptop monitor lacks the full color range. Would like to hear what the pros can share on this subject.

I have PC's (Windows 8.1) and Mac's. You can't go wrong with either. I like the Mac's best of all and Apple is great t work with if you have problems.

I was surprised to learn that a while ago. I have LR4 running on a Vista machine and LR5 on a Win7. I'd love to know some of the technical details about why LR5 and Vista don't work together.

I switched over to MAC several years ago and just purchased a new one. Best move I ever made. Have you noticed in so many tutorials that the instructors use a MAC?

It's the same on TV, and not just scripted shows. Lots of Macs. Scripted TV shows will often have a sticker over the Apple logo, like we can't tell it's a MacBook Pro.

I would go with the Windows 8. I have been using it for over a year now with no complaints. If you buy it and are determined to hate it, you will. If you look at it as just another up grade and get used to it you will not have a problem. The Metro screen isn't anywhere near as bad as it has been made out to be, I actually like it for some things. It comes with a regular desktop overlay that works well if that's what you're familiar with. I find I bounce back and forth between the metro screen and the desktop screen. And it boots up faster than my XP machine ever did

Windows 8 was written specifically to accommodate touchscreens. Even if you don't have one now, there will probably be one in your future. I say you might as well start getting used to it now, touchscreens are NOT going to go away. And they are becoming more and more prevalent as the technology becomes more affordable.

Very much for the average user. My husband loves it and he's the most average user ever, perhaps even below average. He finds it intuitive and easy, and for that I'm very thankful because I don't have to keep teaching him over and over and over again, like I had to do with so many computers and software programs. In fact, Windows 8.1 has gotten him interested in computers, finally. He goes off exploring on his own, leaving me free to do my Photography!

A computer tech told me he and the rest of his shop couldn't get into the advanced levels of Windows 8. As he put it, if a computer tech can't figure it out something must be wrong. I understand the Retina display on Mac Book Pro is supposed to be the best. I have a MacBook Air and it has been a fairly easy change from Windows, especially from Windows 8.
