I have just spent several totally frustrating days attempting to load this piece of software.
After virtually the whole application has intalled up comes the message:
"The installation process has encountered an error while installing Shared Technology. Please restart you system and try again."
Needless to say this does not work and the same message recurs.
This is the most user unfriendly abominable piece of software that I have ever encountered. Not only will it not install it has damaged my copy of Photoshop CS5 Extended so that some features will not now work.
How an organization like Adobe have the nerve to sell such a totally unsatisfactory product is beyond comprehension.
I advise all UHH members to avoid this piece of excrement like the plague.

Have you thought about venting your frustration to Adobe? You could try the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum (some of the members are Adobe employees).

http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements

You could also use Adobe's Feedback forum.

http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/products/photoshop_family_photoshop_elements

Or you could calm down and do the recommended troubleshooting for the error message you are getting: "The installation process has encountered an error while installing Shared Technology. Please restart you system and try again."

http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/troubleshoot-installation-photoshop-elements-premiere.html#main_Error__Below_mentioned_applications_have_failed_to_install__Shared_technologies

There is also another option. You could see if you qualify for returning or exchanging your copy of PSE 12.

Did you try turning off your anti-virus while installing? Some software has conflicts with certain AV programs -- most instructions indicate AV may need to be turned off while installing. Just a thought .......

Sorry to hear of your problem. Yesterday I downloaded a trial copy. Went perfectly and works great. Just learning how to use.

So far I have had no trouble.

I agree that you probably need to turn off all your antivirus anti-malware, etc. while installing. from what it says about trying again I think something in one of those is not letting part of elements install. And be aware that some antivirus will still have parts of its protection running even while turned off. Norton and Bit-defender are like that for sure. I had to get the exe file from Bit-defender to remove all if it's parts before I could re-install Photoshop after a computer crash. Try installing after just shutting off your antivirus first. If that doesn't work contact support at adobe.

From my own experience Adobe will help you with installation free of charge

My experience with Adobe has been very good. I have found them only second to Apple. There is something running on your computer that is causing your problem and probably doesn't have anything to do with Adobe. I could be wrong but if you will con act Adobe I am sure they will help you work it out.

Have had my 12 since they brought it out and have had absolutely no problems with it, installation nor use. Just thinking about your post raises a lot of questions about your efforts. Suggest you take note that many members advise shutting down your virus programs, excellent suggestion. Contact Adobe as they will help you also perhaps 2 fingers of a quality scotch would help.

Before you drive yourself crazy, Google to see if anyone else has had similar problems. Sometimes vendors provide a uninstall/cleanup pgm because their software does not uninstall cleanly. You don't mention what OS you are using, hopefully it is W7 or better. Sounds like there are shared files that are banging heads. Don't try the following if you do not have reliable software sources for both PSE12 & CS5. Verify what Adobe pgms are loaded by going into Control Panel Programs & Features. Completely uninstall PSE12 and verify it by running a clean-up pgm like CC cleaner. Next if you can completely uninstall CS5 again running CC cleaner afterwards. Then start by loading PSE12 first, verify operation and then load CS5. If you still have problems, uninstall both again and then take the approach of creating 2 environments on the pc and loading CS5 for user 1 and PSE12 for user 2.

Check your system. My PSE12 installed in minutes , in the same directory as PSE7. Both are fully functional.

Modnar, I understand your frustration - feel free to take it out on me after what I'm going to say here!

1. Did you check to see that your computer has the system requirements PSE 12 needs?
2. I see others have already suggested turning off your anti-virus software. Also turn off your fire wall.
3. Getting mad at either the software or at Adobe doesn't help you. PSE 12 is an excellent program, and most people have no problem installing it. (That some people don't like the program after installing it, has more to do with their personal tastes, or (un)willingness to learn the program).
And sometimes the problems with installation are operator error rather than equipment error or program error.
4. You've also been given some advice to contact Adobe to get help - I'd suggest you follow up on that.

And to show you that I know what frustration is.... I have had my current laptop for about two years. I put a password on it so the grandkids could not access it without my permission. So the other day, when I booted up and typed in the PW, computer tells me it's wrong. Same password I had used for two years... or so I thought. After three days I took it to the shop and for $50 they took the PW off. The next day I found the scrap of paper I had written the PW on when I first created it: There was one letter that I had always typed as a lower case letter, and this time typed as upper case.
Now I was not only frustrated, I was embarrassed as well.
No fun at all!

I had the same trouble when I tried to install Elements 12. I bought the disc so it's not the download you have. I tried all the trouble shooting tips other UHH members suggested and even had Dell support try to help, Nothing Worked! I finally called Adobe and after about a 20 minute wait on hold a support tech come on line, connected to my computer, I followed her instructions and in about 10 minutes she had it loaded and life was sweet. Give them a call and explain the trouble you're having, call early and be prepared to wait a little. 1-800-642-3623, Good Luck!
