The USB ports in the back of my iMac are a pain in the ass. Do you use a USB hub in the front or what do you suggest?

Thanks

I have a little 4-way hub plugged into mine. I connect an external drive for TimeMachine, and I have three others for whatever.

I've started labeling both ends of all cables. otherwise, it can be difficult to identify where a wire is connected. I use either a label maker or printed text covered with transparent tape.

I also have an iMac and bought an inexpensive 8 port hub that is powered (must be plugged into house current) - have had it for 3 years and works great. I use it for two external drives, a CF card reader, etc.

I have two USB ports on the side of my MacBook Pro. I use one for the fan/tilt station on which the computer rests. The other is connected to an eight outlet hub, of which I only use five outlets for printer, backup drive and three cords to attach occasional peripherals (iPhone, iPad, camera) or a gooseneck keyboard light. The only time the configuration changes is for major work on the iPhone/iPad, for which I disconnect the fan/tilt station for a short while to give direct (faster) interface access. I occasionally use one of the two vertical USB hub sockets to plug in a thumb drive or card reader.

Use a Belkin 4 Way Hub:

Mediocre reviews but mine works fine in addition to using all 4 Ports on iMac.

I have been using this one from Iogear for more than five years with my desktop Mac.

The nice part is the port mounted on the front. I use that for my HD reader which is just left plugged in but is never in the way.

I have a Plugable USB 2.0 10 Port Hub (with Power Adapter) which lists at Amazon for $25. I like it very much.
