Yup, I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to give my camera up for a short time and sent it in for repair. Now, to go to the shelf and pull out my old Canon 35MM "film" camera. I don't suppose that I'll be shooting as many photos as normal for the duration of the repairs. Thank you for your comments and expertise jerryc41.

This seems to be an issue as I personally know one other person this has happened to. My first Nikon DSLR camera was the D5100 and two weeks out of warranty my command dial just quit functioning, I sent mine in to Nikon which quoted me $320.00 for repairs, mind you this was a couple of years ago now. I decided against the repair route and just bought another camera body, a D7K. Used, but an upgrade none the less, I was so heartbroken because all I had ever trained on was the full manual settings and was just starting to understand the finer points of exposure. I tried using the auto settings but could never be satisfied with any of the computer's decisions. It frustrated me to the point of almost giving up the fledgling hobby, I am so glad I didn't, as I find it peaceful and relaxing use of my free time.
Have you tried resetting the shooting menu ??
