Was cleaning a lens today and this woodpecker (Flicker?) flew into the tree right outside my window. I managed to put the lens back on my camera and grab these 2 quick shots of him. Sure wish my window was cleaner.

Very nice. I have been trying but have not been able to get a good shot of a flicker yet.
Thanks. They don't stick around long, this one was here for maybe 15 seconds.
Cool shots of a very interesting bird!

Thanks. Sure wish he would have given me time to set up though.
2nd pic good. Beak shows. IMHO

I agree. The first one was a snapshot and then he hopped further up the tree and I got the second one just before he flew off. Got one in between but 1/250sec was too slow to freeze him and it blurred. These were the only 2 decent shots I got. Must have been a good bug under that curled piece of bark in the first shot.
These shots are better than most people [myself included] get after setting up.
Great shots, I haven't seen one of these in many years!
Really good shots! You are right, they don't hang around long! The fact that all Flickers are speed freaks when it comes to moving around is verified by the fact that your bird's cousin was here in Colorado yesterday and I had a great shot all lined up. Before I could even squeeze the shutter button, he went up higher in the tree and was there just long enough for me to get a shot of him with a point and shoot move!
Flicker
Also, note how they support themselves with their tail to gain extra leverage so as to be faster at getting those tasty bugs under the bark!
Ill bet you were more than a little annoyed at that piece of bark.
Nice photos of the flicker, they are a neat bird.

I was annoyed at it, but I think it was the bugs under it that made him stay still there long enough for me to put the lens on my camera and get that shot, so I am thankful for that.
