Need Printer Advice

Q1: I'm looking for a good quality 11x17 printer to print photos.

But since I'll be using it to print many pictures, I need a larger, preferably refillable, ink supply.

Q2: Does anyone have a printer with an OEM or aftermarket CIS installed? (Continuous Ink Supply)

Thanks,
--Dan

Hi Dan. I'm in the UK and you are in the USA, but I use Marrutt inks on an after-market installed CIS, and I know they have customers all over the world. For example, someone in Australia mentioned using this company's inks just a few days' ago on this forum.

I print literally hundreds of photos every year: three years' ago I printed over 600 4 x 6 inch photos between January and April for a 4-day seminar we were attending. But now I mostly print A3-size photos. I use an Epson Stylus Photo R 1900 printer, which is now out of date, but which runs brilliantly.

Marrutt service is exceptional, but I am fortunate, because I live just a mile away from them, so can nip down to talk to them if I have a problem. But I see and hear them dealing with customers worldwide and I would recommend you to have a look at their website and check them out. They also have troubleshooting videos and tutorials on their website.

My only problem is that I have now bought Elements 12 and cannot get the colour right (there is another thread on the forum I started 2 days ago about this) but I have been down to Marrutts several times and we have established that there is nothing wrong with their inks or my printer, the problem is definitely with PSE 12. I also use Marrutt paper, and every few months I can get a new, personalised calibration for their inks and paper and my printer. Their ink saves me a fortune, the quality of Marrutt ink is very good indeed and I understand that they have some kind of tie-up with Lyson so you don't mess up a Lyson printer with substandard or third-party inks. I highly recommend the Marrutt system, and I am sure there are people in the USA who already use it.

Glad to be of help. I made an error in the last lines of my reply to you, which should have read that you "don't mess up an EPSON printer...... " (not a Lyson printer). But I expect you realised what I meant.

If you don't mind spending almost $100, I can recommend the Canon Pro-100. You pay $400 and get $300 back via an Amex card. I got one a couple of months ago. Very nice printer.

We're the same age . . . errors and understanding go with the territory

Just received the Epson r3000. So far it's been exceptional.

I buy large format printers on ebay, with CISS systems. The best is Epson 1100 and 1600 if you can find the 1600. Prints 13 x 19s. I would say I could get over 500 13 x 19 prints with one fill up. Printer cost around $200. with ink.

Dan,
I have had a Epson 1430 printer with ciss pigment ink for several months now. I really like this setup.

The CIS is from Cobra Inks, They are located in Tennessee.

They provide color profiles for their ink for several paper types.
Have Fun, Bob

Jerry,
I have the Pixma Pro also, and purchased. It a few months ago too. I think I remember you stating once you also had an I-pad? If so, do you know if you can download the manual and the software onto it somehow? I have tried and am just not successful at all. Not sure if it is me ( I am NOT computer savvy)or if it is just not able to work on the pad?
Thanks Pam

I'm on a Mac, but I'm sure the process would be similar.
• Save the Manual onto the desktop.
• Drag it onto iBooks.

• Open iTunes
• Select your iPad in the left column.
• Click on the "Books" tab
• Check "Sync Books"
• Check the box for your Manual (if syncing 'selected books')
• Sync.

Your manual should appear in iBooks on your iPad.
