Hi Please with your photography website do you have a card and sell off there or do you (as I do) fill the orders yourself.
I am with foromerchant orders are emailed to me to fill. I can opt to have the website fill orders but it costs me and customers $15 for postage where as if I do it myself then it only costs $4.

Which way would you go.... they also take 7% of sales as commission if they process. Is it worth paying this fee.
Any feedback greatly appreciated

Marketing and cost issue is not something you will get a good feedback on. Especially when you are in Australia...

Hi Please with your photography website do you ha... (show quote)

I am not a professional and sell very few of my photos. However, I do maintain a website for family and friends that are out of the area.

I will give you my opinion though for what it's worth. Do you have the time or the means to do your own printing? If so, which way do you make more money? The third question is what works better for you?

If you can make a fair profit margin by letting them do the work, and you are satisfied with the quality of the work they do then I would let them do it. One more question, are your customers satisfied?

This probably hasn't been a lot of help to you but I am sure it is giving you some things to think about. Good luck with your business.

I do have a small portion that I do online, but that is only for event type photos. I use shootproof.com No extra shipping, no commissions. first 100 photos are free, then it is $10 (American) per month for up to 1500 photos. They have deals with labs, I set the pricing.

That being said, if you are trying to sell to clients, you will always do better face to face. It doesn't take high pressure sales, but if people think too long, they cut back on their orders. I like to meet with them either in their house, or even at Starbucks, but I bring with me some LARGE prints, that I can hold up. If you look at sizes online, 8x10 seems large, but if you see how small it really is, and then I show you a 20x30, and hold it up for them, they love the size, and I make a LOT MORE MONEY...which is why I'm selling. I don't push, I just show them what things will look like. In their home, I can hold a sample image up in the location where it will be hung. It will sell itself. I get told that I don't charge near enough for my setting fees, but I make up for it in print sales. (at least it is enough for me, as it isn't my main job, it pays for the toys, some of my bills, and a vacation or two)
