Going to be in Grand Canyon area in 2 weeks. Any recommendations for spots off the beaten track for some good interesting photos.
If there that long, you must go to Havasu Falls!!!!
Just google the image and you'll see why.

At least it is not in the middle of winter as we did... Froze our butt solid in there... Loooong time ago, 1991?
My long time ago was Jan or Feb 1996 ... There was ice over the first 1/2 mile of the trail from the rim down into the canyon on the southside. After that it was a wonderful hike out to Bright Angel Point. Of course, the trip back uphill was another adventure. Sedona, Havasu Falls, Monument Valley, Meteor Crater, Winslow, and the Petrified Forest NP are all located in / around northern Arizona that can't be missed if you're in the Grand Canyon area for multiple days.
Too bad you aren't going to be there the first Saturday of April. The Grand Canyon Railroad is going to have #4960 heading up the Saturday April 5th run of the Train to the Grand Canyon. They have converted her to vegetable oil and are running her the first Saturday of every month from April to September.
Thanks guys. I'll try to work in the falls and surrounding areas.
I appreciate the input. I just didn't want to take more pictures of a big ditch.
Are you going to the north or south rim area?
I don't know. Be driving from Vegas, so I guess the North rim.
If you're going to the North Rim, hands down go to Point Sublime. You should have a 4x4 since it's 17 mi. on a dirt road and there are several sketchy sections. BUT, in 2 weeks I very much doubt that any part of the North Rim will be open due to snow. The North Rim usually opens in May. The National Park website will let you know if the NR is open. On the bright side, believe it or not, there is a bathroom at the end of that dirt road with electricity (solar powered)! Coolest wilderness bathroom I've ever seen.

Best place to see the Canyon is from the bottom up!

North Rim is closed until May 15th. Do not use the GPS in the rental..lots of people get lost..get a map. On the South Rim..If you are a hiker..go to Plateau Point..it is in (not the bottom) of the canyon..10 miles round trip. If you are not a hiker go to Shoshone Point and Navajo Point. Both are good for sunrise and sunset..better if you get some clouds. Advice above was for Havasu Falls. 10 miles one way, not a day trip, but good photo spot.

Driving from Vegas - go to the North Rim. Many great areas on the North Rim. Also consider Pages where the Antelope slot canyons are definitely worth seeing.
We stayed at Lake Powell Resort in Pages.
Hello, the North Rim does not open until May...

It is not off the path, but do a helicopter ride. Our first view was from the helicopter and is seemed extra spectacular because of the arrival pattern- Hidden then BOOM. There it was in full view. Lots of great "soaring" music.
Take your heavy coat. You won't believe how cold and windy it will be.
