You have a very interesting shadow. I wonder if this could be taken at a time of day when the tree thingy and it's shadow would both be in the frame. There is just too much in this frame. It's not obvious what the focal point is right away.

Taken before breakfast last September. The tree things are painted on the wall. I reloaded with "store original".

This was taken with a Zeiss Ikon, 50mm Ziess f/1.5 lens on Tmax 100 and scanned on Coolscan 9000.

Interesting abstract design -- and I can't decide if I like it or not. It think that it grows on me as I keep looking at it.

I think it needed a slightly tighter cropping. There are lines on the top and right edge (shadow lines) that don't add anything to the photo. In the lower left corner is a tiny piece of the bike that is reflected in the bike shadow. I would have considered cropping off the piece of actual bike because I don't think it adds much to the photo. Then the edge of the image would start with the shadow of the upright part of the roof overhang. (Does that make any sense?)

The image has a kind of cold feeling for me -- probably because of the big expanse of white wall -- but it definitely causes an emotional response so I guess it works for me on that level.

And ... I still can't really decide how I feel about the image.

I'm not entirely comfortable with it either. Maybe I should have waited for the shadows to move a little but I actually got there a little too late.

Cropping the bicycle would get a bit close to the shadow on the left. Above the top is a row of roof tiles and to the right a receding wall with no features so I just used these to frame the image. Maybe I should try adding a little more of them back.

I think there is a good, impactful picture here. To get away form some of the distractions, I'd crop out the bike and the "tree thingy" at the left, and get rid of the dark lines at top and right, then add some black to get a true black in the deepest tones.

I like the concept here, but I am having trouble with the various distractions (the pieces of bike and bike shadow, a part of the second painted tree on the wall, the wheelchair ramp and shadow. I find myself wanting to simplify the scene by removing these unremovable things and just look at the window and the right hand painted tree thing. I don't mind the triangular shadow of the roof so much. As a whole image, it doesn't all hold together for me as is. Of course, it is sharply captured with plenty of detail and nice contrast and an interesting subject.

I think that there are too many things going on for this to work in the way it should. There are several elements that would work individually but together they are too confusing. Where I see a good image, although it might not have been possible, is with the bicycle shadow, the horizontal one across the ramp and it's continuation up the wall. If it had been possible to isolate theses shadows you would have an intriguing image.

I am afraid you are right. I pretty much agree that this one has some fatal flaws. I have to be a little more careful and not expect a snapshot to be redeemable.

It was still a great visit and if you are ever in the area this place is run by a five-star chef for a reasonable price, by Scandinavian standards.

Having no idea who Stora Herrestad is, this picture means little to me. It looks like a confusion of unrelated details with no plan or composition.
