I Blame You, UHH

Good Afternoon everyone. My name is Jim aka photon56. And I'm photoholic.

So, my DSLR entry point started out with a D3000 purchase back in October of 2013. I have a Minolta Maxxum 7000 35mm from years gone by. I wanted to get back into photography again and the point and shoot camera's are not doing it for me. I purchased a refurbished Nikon D3000 camera from the local camera store for a really good deal. Passion rekindled. The D3000 has more knobs and features than I could have ever hope to use or learn. I stumbled across this wonderful forum and have been following it since my purchase. I've been pretty happy with the D3000 except for low light conditions. But, I'm sure novice skills are to blame.

But, wait, the blame is on all of you. Because now I've gone out a purchased a D7100 with a 18-140MM zoom. Oh my, what have I got myself into. Now I AM in over my head. I wanted to stick with Nikon since I started buying lens's. I have a 18-55mm and a 55-300mm.

I realized that I really love photography. My passion is the outdoors. Although I do family pics indoors, which is where the d3000 doesn't quite stack up. With grand babies now in our lives, it makes cost justification an investment, at least that's what I tell others. lol. Yep, that's what it is, an investment.

I also like taking pictures of waterfalls, water fountains. I like to play with the movement of the water or freeze action. That's fun to shoot.

I find that I shoot mostly in aperture priority mode. Playing with the DOF is an art and is fun to blur everything outside of the subject.

I do indoor shooting for the family and this is where my skills fall short. So, I'm working on honing those skills.

I want to say thanks for all the bantering and lively discussions on this forum. When I weed through all the conversations, I was able to zero in on what was going to make me happy for a few years. Now that I have a camera will take me time to grow into, I'll be working on acquiring some good lens. So, now comes the really expensive part, Right?

I'll stop rambling and just say Hi to all of you. Hope to engage in some good conversations. My username is a play on words. Think of "Game On" or "Right On".... Photo On ... or simply photon. Apparently, the name was taken so I appended a 56 on it.

Welcome. This is a lively place, a place to share photos, and a place of incredible knowledge and (usually) informed opinion. It's also usually a lot of fun.

Welcome to the forum.

I have a friend that owns a boat. I says that a boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into. That's about what my camera bag is. a thing with a hole in to throw money into.

I also have a beef with UHH to. Before I found this forum I was perfectly happy with about 98% of my photos. Now I look at them and realize that the composition is either wrong or nonresistant. The focus is in the wrong on the wrong thing. Some don't have a subject at all and it goes on and on. I recently with through my older photos again, now there snapshots, and about 98% of them are throw aways. there is no p/p made that can change the perspective or change the composition. Now I have to thing and keep about a dozen things in mind before a pull the trigger. But they are better photos, I think.

Welcome to UHH Jim, glad you joined us. Go ahead and put the blame on us, we can take it. Several members, me included, suffer from this addiction. No known cure, just live with it. I also shoot the D7100, one awesome camera. Enjoy the forum and have fun.

Hi PhotonÂ…Well all i can say is you went and did it!!!! You are a "hog," addict. Just like the rest of us. At least this addiction is excellent. You will learn ever so much here, and have fun while doing it. Ask questions concerning your indoor shots. There are sooooo many people here that can help. Looking forward to seeing your posts.
