This is the advert from Adorama sent by email.

Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG APO OS (Optical Stabilizer) HSM AutoFocus Telephoto Zoom Lens for Maxxum & Sony Alpha Mount.

Do any of you Sony shooters have this lens and is it really
OS (Optical Stabilizer) equipped?

It appears that most sellers of this lens for Minolta - Sony
use the same description when advertizing it for use with all cameras including the Minolta - Sony.

If the Sony lens is OS equipped do you turn of the camera or the lens stabilization feature or use both at the same time.

The lens is equipped with OS when purchased with the Nikon, Canon or Sigma mounts. The Pentax and Sony/Minolta mount versions are NOT OS equipped as these bodies feature in-camera stabilization. That fact shout be stated in the fine print.

I bought the Pentax mount 150-500 for my K5 and the lens IS optically stabilised and I can choose in-camera stabilisation, OS, or both - I couldn't pick any REAL difference between these 3 options, but both seems to give marginally better results, so i leave both on :)

I received my lens two weeks past, for my Canon, it works just fine, the OS is a great benefit. I sold my Tamron 200-500 because it does not have the
OS and a slow refresh rate. I love my Sigma new lens, have tested for birding, I love it.

From Sigmas site, note the OS description in the lens info paragraph:

I have a copy of the 150-500 Sigma (Pentax) that has OS I also have a copy of the Sigma 18-250 that came with OS, I know the newer versions for Pentax no longer have OS but at least some of the lens did because I own two of them. Use one shake reduction or the other not both. For the longer 150-500 I use the lens OS instead of the on camera SR but get better results going the opposite with the 18-250.

They must have made them with the OS for awhile it sounds like. I had a Pentax in the store and it had no OS switch even on it, and it was a brand new unit from the factory in December. I also currently still have one Sony mount that is on layaway and it does not have the switch either. Sigma may have removed the feature due to system conflicts or something.

Probably more like a waste of money seeing the camera has inbuilt stabilisation :)

Thanks for all the answers.

I did buy a Sigma 18-250 awhile back that was advertized to have OS (Optical Stabilizer) in the lens and when it arrived it was without OS.

After the purchase and arrival contact with seller I found out about the Sony exemption.

I was after one with the OS built in the lens because of the OS in the camera had failed.

Again thank you for all the answers.

I have the lens in Sony Alpha mount ( bought in 2012) and it does have OS. I use in body stabilization usually but switch to OS at the 500mm end.

Sigma actually tells you to use one or the other, never both at the same time.

yeah, i know, i do have their instruction manual, but out of curiosity i actually tested all 3 options - with the results i noted - not saying it will work with every system (camera/model etc.) but i've always worked on the basis that it doesn't hurt to try it for yourself before taking it as gospel (i also found a write-up of this same test on the net - with exactly the same results i got) :)
